The Accidental Classicist

Home: Welcome
Untitled

Hello and welcome to my blog!

Just four short years ago I had no real understanding of what classics was, despite a lifelong fascination with Roman history (hence the blog title!).

Thanks to some amazing people with a passion for outreach and for sharing their own love of classics, I now feel like Alice in ancient wonderland! I began a part-time Classical Studies degree at the Open University and became a classics ambassador for Lytham St Anne's Classical Association in 2021, then spent three weeks in Athens and the Peloponnese in the summer of 2022 as part of the British School at Athens undergraduate summer course on 'The Archaeology and Topography of Greece'.

The experience was life-changing, particularly for a forty-something wife and mother who came to classics by complete chance. I started the blog to capture my adventures in the hope that they may inspire others to find their passion, whatever that might be, and to help make classics and the ancient world accessible to everyone.

Since then I have been fortunate enough to spend time working with a great team of people on the West Area of Samos Archaeological Project.

There is so much more that I want to do and see and be, so I will keep sharing my journey wherever it leads. I hope you enjoy coming along with me.
